Scottish Hindu Wedding

When we were first approached by Josh and Fergus we got really, really excited about their wedding. Apart from the fact they are such a lovely couple and we knew they would be great to photograph, their wedding sounded amazing.

They had their wedding at the Bowdon Rooms which I have to say is a fantastic place to shoot. The staff were so friendly and I can highly recommend the venue.

Josh and Fergus had a Hindu ceremony first and it was wonderful to see all the rituals during this ceremony. The bride and groom aren’t allowed to see each other so a curtain is placed between them. The priest had members of each family hold the curtain until it was time for the big reveal.

When they finally see each other, they are officially husband and wife.  Talk about pressure! We had our cameras poised waiting for the right moment. This is like the walking down the aisle shot, first kiss and confetti shot all rolled into one and we certainly felt the pressure. The priest was so funny though and he took forever to remove the curtain. We didn’t move for about 5 minutes just in case we missed it!

Afterwards, Josh and Fergus had a 2nd ceremony performed by a registrar later that same day. Two weddings in one day. And two gorgeous outfits.
They served traditional indian street food for straight after the wedding and the main meal too. And yes, we did get to sample some and loved it.

Afterwards, guests were treated to a traditional Scottish ceilidh band, which personally we think should be obligatory at every wedding, dance, party. Everyone loved it and it was fantastic to see kilts and saris dancing away all night.

It was an absolute pleasure to photograph such a beautiful wedding.
